Case Cart Criteria

Dustin Patterson & Brayden Bennett | Regional Sales Managers, LogiQuip®

Safely transporting sterile supplies to the Operating Room (OR) is critical for patient safety and for the OR to start cases on time. Ensuring that all equipment and supplies are sterile and free from any harmful bacteria and germs is of utmost importance in preventing the spread of infections and diseases. Below are a few steps to help ensure that your sterile supplies remain sterile from storage to the OR.

Leverage Transport Baskets: The fewer times a sterile wrapped instrument set is touched, the fewer opportunities there are for that wrapped set to become compromised, sending it back to reprocessing. Transport baskets allow you to move sterile wrapped instrument sets through the sterilization process, to storage, to the case cart, and the OR without touching them. This helps to keep your wrapped instrument sets sterile and ready to use.

Use Enclosed Case Carts: While open case carts with a cover are an option, for optimal safety, enclosed case carts provide a clean, sterile environment to transport items to the OR, without worry of contamination. Look for enclosed case carts with deep, rounded, slide-out shelves to avoid damage to wrapped sets. In addition, it will make loading and unloading much easier and faster.

Over the Road Case Carts: Do you have an off-site SPD? Then an Over the Road case cart is the ideal solution. With a reinforced base, heavy-duty casters, full internal door gaskets, and reinforced door hinges, OTR case carts provide safe transport from your off-site SPD to the OR.

Healthcare professionals must follow strict protocols to ensure that all equipment and supplies are properly transported to maintain their sterility. Following these tips can help prevent the spread of infections, keep patients safe during surgical procedures, and keep your OR running on time.
